Risks

REUSE projects are carried out within a regulatory framework defined to meet health and environmental safety constraints. Indeed, chemical contaminants (organic contaminants such as hormones or drugs, nanoplastics, nanoparticles, salts, metals, etc.), pathogens (bacteria, viruses, parasites) and antibiotic resistance vectors are present in raw wastewater. The treatment of this water as well as reuse practices must limit the transfer of these contaminants to humans and ecosystems, as well as human exposure. The multi-barrier approach recommended by the WHO is thus at the heart of the work of the REUSE network. The objective of the 'RISKS' axis of the network is to participate in the implementation of virtuous recycling channels, allowing the use of this resource without impact on populations or ecosystems. To achieve this objective, it is necessary to i) work in a multidisciplinary manner on scientific issues, ii) to transfer or disseminate the expertise acquired to the actors in the sector and to legislators. Working on the way in which health risks are perceived by users (farmers, consumers, etc.) is also one of our priorities.
